About Karen

I am honored to treat my patients with holistic medicine, and offer a caring and peaceful environment for healing to take place.

I have arrived to this place in my life, being a licensed acupuncturist, after many years in biomedicine. I have been an educator of medical students and other health profession students for many years as well as being involved in biomedical research.

What drew me to pursue the study of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture? I was dissatisfied with the increasing role of medications that chased the symptoms of the disease or disorder. No thought was being given to why these things were taking place. I watched loved ones get bombarded with medications that brought more problems than the disease they were being treated for.

Through my anatomical and biomedical studies I had witnessed the amazing healing power of the body…it is a self-healing miraculous living machine.
Often things we are doing in our lifestyle are preventing the healing from happening. I always believed that health and getting back to health should be more simple endeavors , and often had more to do with getting the body back into the proper balance.
Personally, I had suffered with sporadic sciatica and sacroiliac issues for many years that had no real “organic” problem that imaging or testing could find. Going through acupuncture treatments worked for me to eliminate the pain and to understand the root of my problems. I had to find out what this was all about! So I began the journey to seek the answers to the many questions I had for so many years. I want to share this knowledge and help relieve suffering.

    Your first visit

Initial visits generally last from 60 to 90 minutes. I will take a detailed health history, perform a physical exam, and provide you with your unique treatment plan.
During your first exam, I will spend time getting to know you and your health concerns. I will ask you a wide range of questions about your symptoms, eating, exercise, sleep habits, emotional states and anything that may offer insight into your health.
I will also employ diagnostic tools that are unique to acupuncture and TCM such as tongue and pulse diagnosis.

Once I have gathered enough information, you’ll receive a comprehensive diagnosis and a treatment plan that will explain your underlying imbalances, your timeline of care, and what types of treatment you will receive.
Fine, sterile needles will be inserted at specific acupuncture points along the meridian pathways. I will concentrate on acupuncture points related to specific organs, based on your unique issues and symptoms.
Additional therapies, such as cupping, gua sha or moxibustion may be used. Herbal remedies are another important aspect of acupuncture and TCM, and it is important to understand and follow your practitioner’s directions in order to get the most benefit from these treatments.

    Returning to balance

Your actions are a key component of your treatment plan. Focusing on your health and committing to a healthy lifestyle are the best steps you can take for your well-being. Together, we can heal your imbalances and help you achieve harmony and balance.

Even after your symptoms are resolved, acupuncture can assist you in maintaining your health, and possibly prevent future imbalances. The more you incorporate acupuncture and TCM into your life, the more you’ll learn to nurture your body, mind and spirit.

Payment for services can be cash, check, or credit card.

It is my mission to have reasonable rates that enable a person to obtain treatments and sustain maintenance.

I do not take medical insurance at this time, but if your medical insurance supports acupuncture treatments, I can give you a document to submit for your reimbursement from the insurance company. Right now insurance companies only cover pain-related treatment.
